About the Project
The Ara Tūhono – Pūhoi to Warkworth motorway extends the Northern Motorway (SH1) from the Johnstones Hill Tunnels to just north of Warkworth. Named "Ara Tūhono," meaning "a connecting pathway,". The motorway is designed to separate local traffic from transit traffic, significantly enhancing safety, connectivity, and the resilience of the network between Auckland and Northland, while improving access to popular destinations in both regions.
Solution
Provide flexible,
reliable solar trackers offering system production increases of up to 25% compared to
fixed-tilt systems to maximize energy yield.
The new motorway will also play a key role in boosting the economic potential of Northland by facilitating easier freight movement, providing better access to major markets south of the region, and improving connections to export ports in Auckland and Tauranga. It is expected to reduce journey times and enhance overall travel efficiency.
This project is New Zealand’s second motorway built under a Public Private Partnership (PPP), and the first in the upper North Island. The New Zealand Government’s PPP agreement is with Northern Express Group (NX2). Ingal Civil Products was selected as the supply partner for all road safety barriers on the project. Our contribution includes the installation of 80 km of MASH-approved MashFlex Wire Rope Safety Barrier (WRSB) systems in both the verge and median of the motorway.
According to NZTA, the safety standards of the new motorway have been outstanding, with no deaths or serious injuries recorded on the road. The median barriers have been struck multiple times, each time successfully ppreventing vehicles from crossing into opposing traffic or leaving the roadway, demonstrating the effectiveness of the safety measures.
