You reduce deflection by tightening the post spacing. When the posts are placed closer together, the system becomes stiffer and moves less during an impact. At 100 km/h, dynamic deflection reduces from 1.57 metres at 2 metre spacing to 1.05 metres at 1 metre spacing and 0.73 metres at 0.5 metre spacing. If further reduction is required or you need guidance on selecting the right spacing, please contact your local Ingal representative.
For MASH Test Level 2, with a 2,000 kg pick-up, the minimum length of Ezy Guard 4 between terminals is 12 m. For MASH Test Level 3, with a 2,270 kg pick-up, the minimum length between terminals is 20 m.
Yes, but the proximity to the batter hinge must be assessed under the road authority’s Extended Design Domain. Ezy Guard 4 has been crash tested to MASH TL3 with posts placed on the rounding point of a 2H:1V batter using AASHTO M147 65 Standard Soil. Designers should check ground suitability and any erosion before installation and use the maximum offset possible.
Ezy Guard 4 can be installed in weak soil, but the embedment depth may need to increase. In weak soil, the standard 873 mm embedment depth is suitable only when the barrier is at least 500 mm from the rounding point of a 2:1 batter. If the installation needs to be placed within 500 mm of the rounding point, the embedment depth must increase to 1,050 mm. A longer Z post is available for this situation. Any installation close to a batter slope should also follow the Extended Design Domain requirements of the road authority.
